Cold weather, viruses, or respiratory infections can pose significant distress and danger for individuals with asthma. About 85 percent of children and 35 percent of adults develop asthma or shortness of breath every year in winter. The main reasons are: cold, fever, cold-dry air which constricts the respiratory system, increased amount of dust and smoke in winter, fog and closed atmosphere etc. So what to do to avoid asthma-

  • Do not keep too much stuff in the bedroom.
  • Cover everything possible in the house, so that the dust flies less.
  • Have someone else clean the dust accumulated on the TV, mosquito stand, ceiling, fan once a week.
  • Give someone else to shake the old notebooks, files, books kept in the showcase or book shelf.
  • Stay away from fumes from buses, motor vehicles or vehicles.
  • Do not use strong perfumes. Stay away from strong odors, musty smells.
  • If there are poultry, cats, pets at home during this time, do not associate with them.
  • People with allergies should not plant flowers at home during this time.
  • Avoid sitting on grass. Do not cut grass or trees yourself.
  • Bathe with warm water in winter and use muffler.
  • Do breathing exercises. Take a deep breath, hold the breath for about 15 seconds. Bring the two lips into the pose and breathe slowly through the mouth for 10 minutes every morning and afternoon in open air.
  • Always try to be free from fear and worry and never break down in depression.
  • Small children should not play with furry dolls.
  • Do not sweep the house yourself. When sweeping the house, it is advisable to cover your nose with a mask or a towel.
  • If the cough is severe, take antibiotic medicine as advised by the doctor.
  • Drink less cold water/drinks from the fridge. Drink lukewarm water.
  • Wash bed sheets or pillow covers after five days.
  • Wash and use mosquito repellent once a week.
  • If there is a problem with any food, such as beef, hilsa fish, prawns, duck eggs, brinjal, green vegetables, ripe bananas, pineapple, coconut etc. eat less or do not eat.
  • Always try to stay away from dust.
  • Asthma is not a difficult disease, it is possible to stay completely healthy by keeping it under control.
  • Smoking must be avoided

Asthma patients should be more careful in winter. So be careful about it.
